Sounds just like my wife.

Not only is that the low-tech solution it is the status quo. The
problem is that the washer beeps while I'm programming or while I'm
on the phone with a client working out their problems. I can't get
up and empty the washing machine, fold the clothes and put them away
while I'm in the middle of working. I therefore continue my phone
conversation, or my programming, with the annoying beeping going on
in the background until my frustration level mounts to the point of
being just an iota away from kicking the **** out of the machine...

If the signal was piped elsewhere then the person who put the
washing on, who is responsible, can empty the damn thing.

The medium-tech solution at the moment is that when the damn thing
beeps I pick up my DECT phone and ring upstairs to tell someone the
damn thing is beeping. This I can do, sometimes, while maintaining
my conversation or continuing working...
