I got the Velux Integra.  This is the best way to go if it's available in
the sizes you require.  It comes with the motor already installed and has
quite a nice control box/IR receiver fitted to the top right of the window,
also comes c/w rain sensor.  Much better than adding a retrofit motor kit
to
a standard window.  The Integra also has outputs for 2 other motors which
power internal blinds and external awnings, which are controlled by the IR
remote. On the remote you select which window and which motor to control.
The window motor is No.3, a bit odd as you'd expect it to be No.1.

One silly thing though is that the Integra windows come prewired with a
white flex with a moulded plug.  Now anyone who's going to the trouble and
expense of fitting automated Velux windows wouldn't exactly want a 3 core
white flex running from the window, down the sloping ceiling, down the wall
and into a nearby socket!!!  Remove the prewired flex and run a proper
mains
supply to the windows :o)
I have HomeVision and Comfort which provides the necessary IR.

Thanks for this. It sounds as if the interface is not as simple as I had
hoped! I have contacted Velux by email (I am in Brazil at the moment)
but haven't had any response yet.

I am planning to install 4 windows (two on each side of the roof) so it
should not be too complicated. Which kit did you purchase to provide the
IR interface? I could only find IR available with the advanced kit which
is pretty expensive.

It really depends on how many Velux windows you're planning to install.
If
there's a lot then go with Velux's system - you daisy chain to every
window
with a serial bus, signalling each window.  Expensive though.

I installed a Velux in my son's bedroom.  The interface unit for this
single
window was approx £150.  You can't control them with volt free contacts
etc,
you 'program' each window and send a signal via the bus - a bit like
X10.  I
didn't buy the interface as it wasn't worth it.  Instead I ran a cable

inside the Velux IR receiver to Node 0.  With an IR LED emitter fitted
inside the Velux receiver the window can be controlled from your IR
system,
HV or Comfort etc...  for example: when the alarm is set it could send a
repeated close signal to the window.
Zoned IR would be a cheaper way of controlling a number of windows in
different rooms.  However, the Velux control system is very good if you
want
to spend that sort of money.  It soon adds up though, motorised windows
with
blinds are around £800 each.

Why not rinf Velux technical and discuss your requirements with them -
they
were helpful for me.
