Well 42deg seems about right for a CPU - my main Athlon machine runs at
44deg which I'm told is quite low for an AMD but they seem to run hotter
than P4's.
If a P4 gets too hot they usually just throttle back and run slowly
whereas AMD's melt their little silicon hearts out (if the heatsink
falls off) or just shutdown (if the mobo's thermal protection gets there
first) so I'd be surprised if your P4 was rebooting due to heat problems
- the case temperature seems on the high side at 48deg though.
