The principle of RFID is that every tag is unique, so you can tell
one bag of Tate & Lyles sugar from another bag of Tate and Lyle's
sugar.  And amongst the current crop of RFID proposals, there isnt a
numbering scheme like EAN defining what a thing is.

So to find out what a tag is, you would need to query some big
global database of RFID tage -> item descrition.

The future is ubiqutous use of RFID tags.  And of RFID tag readers.

Thus interested parties can tell which bag of sugar you have, and
where you bought it from, and what else you bought at the time,
where you got the other ingredients you've just looked up (by RFID
tag number) at recently (for your cooking session), what clothes you
were wearing when you bought the goods, what route you took round
the supermarket, the mall, and th town, the list is almost endless.

Though it will be funny when you've come out of Tesco's, walking
back to the car park, remembered you've forgotten something, and pop
into the Asda and a big sign flashes up  "Mark - Those potatoes you
bought at Tescos - you've been ripped off - had you bought them here
you would have saved 15p"...
