I more-or-less knew that this was the case however products such as

This old chestunt keeps popping up..... to modulate video and stereo
audio over coax requires a nicam enocder. Nicam encoder=very
expensive.... probably cheaper to run cat 5 and use www.kat5.tv
including costs of replastering etc.
