This is less stupid than it sounds :-)

Not because it's a good idea for those of us who enjoy cooking... but
because the distribution industry is moving away from barcode onto RFID
anyway... and the limiting factor to takeup of this kind of application is
tagging of the "consumables", not the hardware.

Building an RFID reader into a Microwave that could run an internet lookup
of cooking time / power requirements for that readymeal would be, well, a
nice applet.

Oh - and shopping for RFID stuff is nicer still.

Step 1 - fill basket
Step 2 - push trolley through RFID reader "door" (like airport
security
scanner)
Step 3 - swipe credit card (and probably be photod by hidden camera at
same time, but that won't be advertised :-) )

Presto - no more checkout queues.
