OT: Shower Pumps

Can anyone who has retro-fitted a shower pump tell me if my current
thinking is correct please?

The pump is obviously wired to the mains but doesn't run all the time
(?) - it only kicks in when water flows through. Or do you need to
install a switch locally beside the shower to activate it?

If hot and cold water supplies and temperatures are fine just now, on
the non powered shower, temperatures should still be ok on the pumped
shower - but obviously supplies of the hot water will be used up
quicker. Correct?

Finally are these pumps noisy? If I had one installed in the loft
above the bathroom would I hear it?

TIA

Malcolm
