Yep...

I'm in a house only 3 years old.
About a year ago I started getting phantom trips of the RCD and one of
the MCBs that was on a socket ring.
As it never coincided with myself or the missus actually switching
anything on or off, I initially assumed it was the fridge /freezer.

After having various parts in the fridge replaced over a period of 3
months and the occurrences getting more and more frequent I was pulling
my hair out.

One day, when boiling the kettle, I hear a "fizz" sound and odd
carbon
smell.

Unscrewing the double-socket from the wall revealed this:

Replaced the socket - problem goes away (not surprisingly).

Moral of the story ?? Sometimes, it's not the stuff plugged into the
sockets that are at fault.

Cheers,
Rob
