We use iInventory where I work:
http://www.iinventory.com
If you are only doing a couple of systems it is free up to 10 users,
otherwise you need a license, over that it becomes ~$11+ per seat
depending upon whether you want one off licenses or not.
You can use it via floppy or a login script and have it write back to a
central location. It adds all the details to a database and then you can
either use the application provided to get details or (as we do) use
some ASP scripts to query the database and publish the results via a
webserver.

Sorry for the off topic post but I am in need of a PC auditing tool that
as a minimum will report hardware specs (memory, processor etc) and if
possible some info about applications installed (although this is
secondary).
key requirements are....
-free or very cheap
-fit on a floppy and record output to floppy or alternatively to screen
for printing -not overcomplicated as this is for a quick and dirty audit
of a building full of PCs -simple to use as clerical staff with little
knowledge will be running it
Thanks in advance for any help
Mick
