I saw this on pretty much every dual output card I used until a couple of
years ago.  You normally find that playing video results in it appearing on
only one of the outputs (ie. the primary output, or VGA in your case).  If
you turn off the primary display (your VGA output), I suspect you'll find
that the video comes to life on the composite output.
