Thanks for that Phil, but no HV and the cost of these units (even the
Arcam)
count me out.

Does anyone have any experience/knowledge of the Yamaha "Extended IR
codes?"

I think you're going to have to go for one of the serial port equipped AV
amps for that and then use some sort of external control (such as
HomeVision) ... In that way you could do what you're describing with both
the Pioneer AX10 and the Arcam AVR300 (both of which I've had controlled by
HomeVision).

I haven't seen anything with such functionality in the IR domain though.
