Re: Re: New Regs to kill DIY HA?

Hi David
It appears the UK is going down the same path as us
downunder.......Personally i think its a bit harsh that service techs have
to be licensed ...The sparkies copped a real bashing in Silicon chip Mag a
while back over this issue ......Im a registered contractor although i
subby to other sparkies and i had a visit from an inspector wanting to know
why i hadnt put any paperwork in...Told him i was a subby and he asked if
i
had did any electrical work in my own home...Of course i laughed and said
yes ,doesnt every sparkie ;-)....Got a letter in the mail the next week
from the chief Electrical Inspector stating i would be fined $1000.00 if it
happened again .............

I tend to agree with Ken that it will create more illegal work rather than
reduce it....I have seen some real crackers Joe Public has done and some
shockers sparkies have done (pardon the pun)...Must be some money in it for
someone.......and a nice little out for insurance companies ...

Have they made tagging and testing appliances, tools and leads compulsory in
the UK as yet ;-)

Frank
