RE: Re: New Regs to kill DIY HA?

'1) The hassle of informing building control, and then having an inspection
Surely this is just a telephone call, or a form

'2) The additional costs.
Granted this is an inconvenience

'3) The pointlessness of the additional regulatory burden, when the
'death/injury count is so tiny (and even then, inspections won't save most
of
'those people)
Any life saved is worth it, I wouldn't want my wife or kids to be part of
the tiny statistic.

This is a regulation and it's coming into force in a couple of weeks, we
have to live with it. To say that it's the end
of DIY HA really is a bit dramatic. Lets put it into perspective:

The guy who built my foundations isn't registered under a competent persons
scheme for building works, it took him a day
to get building control out and inspect them, we didn't see the cost and he
didn't moan about it. My estate is full of self builders
who are all going through the same procedure.

Cheers

Martin
