Hmmm, so as my supplies of old cable dwindle, I'll be forced to use short
lengths in the old colours where it's visible (at the socket), with new
cable hidden in the walls, all connected together with choccy blocks and
insulating tape.

Doesn't sound much safer to me ;-)
