I am sure everyone with an interest here would like this. Both
communities are putting in effort to present a coherent list of apps
and how to guides etc. on their respective sites. The trouble is the
docs etc. are not the fun bit and we all suffer from a lack of
enthusiasm in these circumstances.

An area close to my heart - well, for Atmel anyway but the basics are
the same. One of the things I can talk about for quite a long time
these days.

Nice and easy to set up. Could even take the case off one so you can
see what happens. Alternatively my relay board uses relays with see
through top covers so no need to disect one.

Another one of my favourite areas although these days I seem to just
frighten people ;-)) Having said that the chips which are the most
fun are often only available in surface mount so don't be afraid, get
in there and work out how to get the most from the available toys.
With luck I should have a very sophisticated almost entirely sufrace
mount board to show what can be achieved with some time and patience
in your garden shed.
I have beed down the entire road now (I think) from vero board to
smt. Lots of lessons to pass on.
The seminar approach would also be a nice and refreshing change to
the format
