Re: Comments please on quote for alarm installation
Hi Chris..
Interestingly I have the same alarm panel (and am very pleased with
it). I inherited a very basic Galaxy 16 system when I bought the house
and I had it replaced by a Galaxy 60 (wish actually I'd gone for the 512
now). I had around 20 extra sensors fitted and all the PIR's replaced
with dualtec (PIR/Microwave) sensors plus had more keypads inc a keyprox
unit and some RF bits , and a serial interface, Redcare and GSM - I
think that cost me about £1600 but there was already some useable wiring
in. . I am guessing the amount of rewiring may be similar to you spec
though. I am not totally sure 'who' owns what though anymore (me or the
alarm co - I think they own the panel and keypads only). My annual
maintanance is close to £500 though inc the monitoring.
The Galaxy is a great panel and hugely flexible - it even has a xAP
connector for it ! For me a key feature was the 4 partitions it
supports allowing effectively 4 individual independant alarm systems off
one panel. As I have a separate rented adjoining property this was
great. However you need to have a good relationship with the installer
in terms of making sure you will have useful access to it if you have HA
ambitions for it. They may insist on relay isolation of everything that
you want to connect to it and the serial interaction >may< need to
be
one way, effectively a printer output which will provide monitoring but
no control.. After a few years now and no false alarms they tend to
get more comfortable with you pushing the edges of what the panel can
do. I have had to use a small secondary tandem alarm system as well to
provide a few more 'alarm/HA' type features that they felt wouldn't be
permissable under NACOSS regulation
