Well, thought I'd just post a quick update travel fans....

Hotel was OK - not good value for the money we paid, and service was
distinctly average. The plasma screen was a bonus though, as was the corner
room with views of the Statue of Liberty from one side, and Brooklyn
Bridge/WTC site from the other.

3 days wasn't enough to do everything we wanted, especially as 3 of the
days
were pretty misty, so the Empire State had to wait until Monday, as,
evidentially, it had for a gazillion other weekend-breakers, so was a tad
busy, and face-freezingly cold!

I didn't do so well in the shopping stakes, so consoled myself on the last
day with a 60Gb Photo-iPOD. Together with the Bose SoundDock and countless
accessories for my wife's mini-iPod (Xmas pressy), I think I'm Apple's
Bee-atch ;-) That means my 30Gb is now without a home, see my forthcoming
FS
post....

Other than Apple, pretty poor for gadgets (as others have said), and even
power tools were thin on the ground in the city. There was a Home Depot on
the way to JFK, but time and wife didn't allow me to stop there!

Anyway, thanks again to all who gave advise, the cut & pasted
compilation of
all the emails stayed with me for the whole weekend!

Pete

The Millenium Hilton there is great, we were there last Christmas on the
52nd floor.
Fantastic views over the river - WTC site was very quiet and the huge area
it covers
certainly makes you reflect. For the geeks (me included!) in-room broadband
LAN is
useful ;-)

My top tips are :
Empire State at night.
Book tickets for Statue of Liberty online (http://www.nps.gov/stli/)
<http://www.nps.gov/stli/)>
before leaving UK.
A visit to SoHo.
Times Square at night - full of tourists but gotta be seen (inc the BIG
ToysRus there!)
Ice Skating in Central Park.
Macys.
Walking over Brooklyn Bridge.

Enjoy! We are off to NYC for New Years - cant wait :-)
