You've just shown why sniping works.  It's because people don't stick to
their maximum bid - if they get outbid they get tempted to set a new
maximum.  Sniping stops this by waiting until the last few seconds, so that
people don't get time to increase their maximum again.

I make no apologies for using a sniping tool - without it I just kept
losing
auctions to the other snipers.
