Americans recording 6+ channels using HomeBrew PVRs

It at times like this that I wish the UK would get cable.

I know that there are freeview cards that would allow us to do a similar
thing. But its the channels on SKY I would like to record, and I don't
really want to pay SKY for 6 subscriptions
