RE: Tivo / Linux command
You may be able to control a CM12U over the serial port, but why would you
want to?
The Tivo only has a 50MHz, yes FIFTY MHz processor and it's got it's own
stuff to do...
The TivoWeb webserver may be trivial, but it's a heck of a party trick...
n=
o
other DVR can do it....

ok if it's bash then he needs to slap his commands at the bottom of
/etc/bashrc

duh My head is not that far in the sand ! Was thinking more in terms of
X10
or similar control.
I'm looking at the hacking guide at the mo.... all trivial stuff.
Not sure if I should still go for this just to get custom OSD messages.
Cheers

ENV doesn't work, but the prompt says BASH2.02#
Yes, it does have a serial port, but it's better to put a network card it
it, extracting video over a serial port is time consuming :)
You can't. The going price seems to be about =A3200 - =A3250 for a basic =
unit.
Bigger drives and network cards cost extra.
Have a look at www.tivoland.com or ebay.
Also, www.tivocommunity.com and Tony's www.freeranger.co.uk

whoah .... this thing gives you a shell ! What shell is it ? When you
type
the command 'env' what results do you get ? (might not exist).
Does TIVO have a serial port ?
Anyway since I know sod all about TIVO I can but guess .....
Through your env variables in /etc/profile (permissions being 755).
Failng
that create a file called .profile in the directory you log into.
ps Where can I get one of these TIVO's from on the cheap ?
