Depends on how cheap you want to do it and on XBox Live....

If you're doing it yourself you can reflash the existing bios for
practically free (open the box, solder/paint two sets of connection
together, and then run the flash software via a game hack), this let's you
run unsigned code like Linux, XBox Media Centre, emulators etc BUT you
can'=
t
go on XBox Live (well you can but only for a few seconds till your box gets
banned for life).

If you must have XBL, you need a proper mod chip, which lets you do all the
stuff above BUT has an OFF switch so you can turn it off and then go on XBL
(so if anyone was thinking of playing dodgy games on XBL - it's not
happening). The modchip costs =A330-ish if you solder it in yourself, more
=
for
a non-solder version (but personally I've had nothing but trouble from
them - they move around inside the Xbox and you'll occasionally have to
ope=
n
the box up again and reseat it).

www.baldbouncer.co.uk has chips and also sells pre-modded units, highly
recommended (no connection etc).

Hi All

I am thinking of getting an xbox mainly to play games and also to do
some of the cool media player stuff everyone has been talking about.

Question is what do I need to mod the xbox and where can I buy them
already done?

And if they are chipped can I still play xbox live stuff?

Ben
