Hold on though, the question is where does this switch go.

As long as you have identified which is the common wire that needs to
get switched and which are the direction wires you are ok.

The other issue is that my rails manual control is a simple push to
start, push to stop, and it changes direction each time.

This does not match a requirement for a double throw, so just be sure
you know what the control interface is!

Bearing in mind I have no idea what is physically available from the
motor unit.
