All the CE devices I have had come on at midnight each day. What is
annoying is that I have found that the wireless network card in my PPC
keeps
the unit on until the battery is dead whereas the wired card allows it to
switch off. Could there be a slightly different hardware setup between the
unit that stays on and the one that quietly goes back to sleep?

They are old windows ce handhelds. I did think that they may be
updating/recalibrating something but I couldn't think what it was because I
don't store a lot on them due to the fact that I mainly use them for
terminal servicing to my server.
Strange thing is that I've had one come on for about three, four seconds
and
then switch off and I've had another come on and stay on until I switch it
off.
