My guess is that it draws power from the USB plug when you place it back in
it's little 'jacket' i.e. if te USB data lines aren't connected does 5v on
the USB plug power it in player mode?

I have a muvo.
And yep, it powers itself from the usb.

You'd have to use it just as a storage medium tho - don't think it will
play
anything from its earphone socket (not tried tho, so cant be 100%..)

Anyone know of any cheap (64Mb or 128Mb) MP3 players that

DC input socket (so they don't have to be run from
batteries) or does anyone
know if the Creative Labs MUVO will power itself from a USB
