Sound like the audio level from the Sky box is too high and is exceeding
the
input range of the audio switching chips inside the Tivo. When this
happens,
protection diodes clamp the input to the supply vlotage but it results in
an
audible crackle.

Try reducing the audio output level of the SKY box.
