Phone frying network

  • Subject: Phone frying network

If you accidentally plug a network cable into a telephone port, you'll fry
the network
card (at least). What if you were to wire the telephone (cat5) sockets so
that it uses 3
of the 4 pins unused for networking? Will this save the PC and network card
from being
fried, or are network cards all wired differently wrt the unused 4 pins?

Thanks,
Paul
