It's an option Steve, and something I am seriously looking at - the
problem=
is volume...=20
I keep my gerbils in a "gerbilarium" -=20
http://www.wintermute-ltd.com/gerbilhab1.jpg=20
A modified aquarium, (complete with home made MDF lids and dividers) which
=
lets them dig tunnels and nest the way they would in the wild - it needs a
=
lot of shavings however!! - the top tank is now a single unit, and that's
w=
here the breeding pair live - it also gives an idea of the amount of
shavin=
gs being used..
Gerbils are very clean creatures - they are desert dwellers, so their
faece=
s are dry and odourless, still, for good hygiene, the bedding needs to be
c=
hanged every three weeks or so.. I reckon I get through a 1ft x 1ft x 3ft
b=
ale of wood shavings in about 3 months - that's a lot of doors :)
Ian.

Ian
Bit of an obvious one really, but why not just get a cheap electric wood
planer and a lump of wood and make your own shavings. That way you'll be
certain what you've got, and a wood planer will come in handy for those
doors that need trimmed when you next change the carpets for deep pile
ones :)
Screwfix sell planers for =A380, but I'm sure you could get one cheaper
than that.

If anyone knows where I can get a reliable supply of hardwood shavings,
or better aspen wood shavings, please let me know. It's now a matter of
life and death - our gerbils just birthed another litter - these pups
will be okay until about day 10, the 27th April - if I don't move them
to other bedding by this point, we may well lose the whole litter again
- and I really don't want to see these pups die.
Any help will be incredibly welcome!=20
