The VIA C3 chips have very poor performance on heavy calculation or data
set manipulation operations - I have found a C3-800 to be horrifically
slow on Seti crunching as well..

I guess these Via PC systems have their uses - and this isn't one of
them!

Tried Skype on beside system last night and it was rubbish.  Turned out
that
the VIA500 CPU was running at 100%.  Changed to the old P3-900 laptop
and
CPU usage was around 30% and quality was back to normal.

Strange that an iPAQ has enough horsepower but not the VIA.
