Hello Dean,
Some superbright LEDs need 3v so why not use 4 of them together,
then you do not need a resistor. I see no reason why a halogen style
transformer shouldn't work. Try these websites for superbright LEDs;
www.superbrightleds.com pr www.gilway.com .
