Camera's

Hi All

Decided to install a camera I have had for about 5 years but never fitted.
It is a Micromark which I bought from Wickes some five years ago. Anyway I
fitted it on Saturday. As I had to cut the ends of the supplied cable
anyway
in order to get in through 8mm diameter holes in my house walls I decided
to
replace the supplied cable with Cat5. So I cut the Din plug off the
supplied
camera wire at one end and connected it up to individual wires in the Cat5
cable. At the other end of the Cat5 I reconnected the original camera
supplied wire which has a scart plug on the end.

It works...to a degree. The camera has a very poor picture quality.
Objects
real close are okay but anything further away than 2 metres is barely
distinguishable. Also the brightness/contrast is real poor. Anything
farther
than 2 metres with even the smallest amount of light reflection shows up
with
glaring bright white.

So my question is: Do you think the poor picture quality is just because
of
the cheapo camera or is Cat5 not suitable for this type of application. I
have taken the housing off the camera and tried to adjust the focus. Also
found a potentiometer that had the word brightness printed on the PCB. I
turned this but it had no effect whatsoever and in fact turned infinitely
both ways.

Regards

Anthony

Kind regards
