Thanks for that, I've got it going now.

I've used a hidden frame so the page loads into it and is never seen.

Works much better than the original and now means I don't have to take the
proto out to the pool when we go for a dip.

Ah right :/

There was a VB program that someone on tivocommunity made a while ago
which basically made the http request without displaying it in a browser.

To do it totally within a web page, you'd either need to do something
like make it a pop-under window with javascript always keeping two
windows open, or do something to the TivoWeb sendkey code to send a
javascript.history(-1) or whatever the back command is, or do something
in javascript to pop a new window then close it after x seconds.
