I guess cost is going to be a major deciding factor, so this may cost too
much.... I would suggest using Dallas Semiconductor's 1-wire bus with a
DS2406(or 2405) per LED, then you just string three wires to and from each
LED (serial). You could even wire the DS2406 and resistor directly to the
LED. You get a cheap serial interface for the 1-wire bus and then all LEDs
can be controlled individually from the PC (or a TINI if you want them on
the network). You should be able to get a few 'samples' to give you the
idea.
