RE Intercom systems...

Hello Howard and All,

Just to say upfront I work for a new HA company called Idratek Ltd.
We demonstrated our system at the UKHA meeting this year and are
busy working on CE compliance before we release our products
publicly. Having said that we have systems, which have been
installed, in houses for several years.

In several large houses we have our multi-function control panel in
every room (18+). These panels have Light level, Motion and
Temperature sensors built in, together with Infrared Transmitter and
receivers for remote control. Further it has two relays for
switching lights or other mains devices. But to get to the point it
also has an audio interface, which can work in hands free or press
to talk mode.

Our network is a wired system using cat5 cable, which includes the
Audio buss. An intercom session can be instigated to operate by
pressing buttons on the panel or via an IR packet or by many other
means. So you can sit in a chair and speak a message to the rest of
the house if you like! Anyone can reply by pressing a button to
talk, or occupied only rooms may have their intercoms automatically
switched to hands free. The conversation may be private between two
or more rooms; alternatively the whole house may hear the
conversation. Time of day options allow intercoms not to broadcast
a call if required (say a Childs rooms at night). It can also be
used for delivering telephone answer messages automatically and can
annunciate an incoming phone call. The intercom may also be used as
a baby monitor and for speech recognition to a PC to control the
whole network. Also when using the PC the door bell is played
throughout the house and may be cancelled on any panel or by opening
the door. Acoustic feedback between rooms is automatically
cancelled by knowing the topology between rooms and also if doors
are shut or open.

So this rather long post was really just to say DECT is not the only
option. I have 4 DECT phones and the intercom system and use both.

When the CE compliance is done and we are ready to go, our web site
will be operational at Idratek.com. Apologies now for not being
able to offer the product for sale at the moment but if your haven't
made a decision by the time we are ready, then it may be worth a
look.

Regards

Viv.
