Thanks Ian.

I'm not hugely into VBScript although have done some in the past (mostly in
relation to the Comfort/ACE web interface). Are there any sample scripts
available anywhere? To enable more (non-scripters) to use xPL, is there a
plan to produce some kind of GUI/Interface to allow this kind of
functionality to be setup but without the complexity of VBScript? Or does
that go against the whole concept?

Cheers,

Paul.

Neither xAP nor xPL can talk to Ace yet. The author, Dan Hoehen needs to do
some work on that front, and seems to be swamped at the moment.

The "right now" option is to use the xAP HV DDE connector. I
understand that
this isn't complete, but gives a degree of connection. Mark H was intending
to post about the HV connector.. Mark?

To get the core guts working beyond that you need two files:

The xPLHal engine, and xPLHal Manager (downloadable from
www.xplproject.org.uk )

Install the Engine on your HA Server, Manager can go anywhere on the
network.

With these installed, you should be able to create a script (normal
VBScript) that will respond to the various messages coming from the HV xAP
connector, and be able to carry out actions, whether those be sending other
xPL or xAP messages, kicking of macro events etc.

Similarly the existing X apps can be used to trigger off a script which
will
send a message to HV via the xAP connector.

This will work just now. What may be an option in the near future as well,
is to use HomeAutomator, developed by Graham Howe and Andy Powell. I
believe
that HomeAutomator has xPL support, however, this will now need to be
revisited in light of the new IANA port allocation.

Tony T has posted a bunch of information about the xAP functionality added
into xPLHal over on the ukha_xpl yahoo group.
