Hi Mark
You can know up a loopback tester in a couple of minutes, you just need to
connect pins 2 and 3 on the com port and that should do the trick (to test
tx and rx, all you really need unless you are doing hardware flow control),
and in terms of software then there should be all sorts of 'checkit' type
software on google..
