Newbie alert...

Hello people,

I've just joined upto see what's going on in here.
A few of the regulars here may recognise my name from over on the UK
Selfbuild forum.
For those that don't know me and are vaguely interested, here is a
bit about me.

I have a Degree in Software engineering, and am also qualified in
electronics. Freelance software engineer, married with no kids, but
lots of toys :-]

We are currently converting a bungalow into a large chalet bungalow
just south of Guildford in Surrey, and have modified/extended a few
other places in the past.
As for HA, the bungalow will have a comfort system and use x10
modules primarily for exterior and security lighting.
We also have a vehicle alert in the drive, and various cameras around
the place linked back to some magic box that tells us who is coming
up the drive/garden/etc (I forget who makes it now, but it links to
the comfort anyway).
The place will be flood wired with cat5, and I have a Lutron
enclosure & modules rather than a 19" rack setup.

It is intended that the x10 setup wil be controlled from the comfort
system, my Pronto remote, and will also use RF keyfobs for the garage
door and exterior lighting.

I don't have a single node zero, as the layout of the bungalow didn't
lend itself to this too well. As a result there are two nodes for
x10, and one node for the cat5/comfort.

Audio & video ?
We will have a dedicated AV room with projector, but that is a way
off yet. The main lounge has a 36" tv and most of the other kit is in
a rack tucked away out of sight. Still yet to decide how best to
cable for this. I have however designed a modular distributed av
system, but its development has stopped until work on the bungalow is
a lot further along.

That'll do for now I think. ;-)

Cheers,
John.
