Hi Dean,

First things first... Keep calm... I know this is probably difficult at
th=
e
minute.. But it helps to have a level head...

Have you checked to make sure that it is actually the drive that's giving
the problem? That same message will occur if someone has left a floppy
dis=
k
in the drive.. NT will try boot and give an error "NTLDR Missing"

If the drive is hosed then there are several options open to you...

1. Stick the drive into another PC and see if you can get the data off that
way - obviously one capable of reading NTFS
2. Try an application like Ontracks Easy Recovery Pro to scan the drive,
se=
e
if it can find any data
3. Send the drive to a data recovery firm. I believe that Calum Morell on
this list specialises in this. Failing that, the best in the business are
VOGON (www.vogon.co.uk), but they arent cheap!

Other options open to you are sticking the drive in the freezer to see if
you can get it going long enough to drag data off (this has been mentioned
on here before)

Do you have any backup tapes, if so, how up to date are they? It could
the=
n
be simply a case of getting a new drive installed, installing NT then
restoring from backup.

Good luck!

Paul.

Went to restart it and nothing - no boot record on hard drive....

What the hell do i do - who should i send it to to recover data.

This is a real big problem for us. Help me please.

Machine was/is a NT4 server. I think drive overheated ? - i was on
