I have to really go for the 17" as the using logic audo with it's many
scre=

If your talking really and truly "on the go" then I'd look at the
new 12"=
=0D
PowerBook... All the features.. Just much much smaller :-) If it=E2=80=99=
s the=0D
screen estate that you want then you would be able to cope with it on the=
=0D
road, but you would notice it! (or consider the new 15")=0D
=0D
If your buying new though I'd wait a week or so for Panther to be=0D
released... And then get it included... At the moment its free for current=
=0D
buyers... But you have to pay P&P costs=0D
=0D
I know... The =C2=A3-$ conversion rate is always painful... Its better wit=
h Apple=0D
than most though...=0D

Guys,=0D
=0D
1Gig 17" Powerbook owner here :-)=0D
=0D
If I start gushing please forgive me... ;-)=0D
=0D
My main reason for purchase (apart from looks) was that I work with PC's a=
ll=0D
day... And fancied a change in the evenings and at weekends... I still hav=
e=0D
my P4 Shuttle... But its not been on anywhere near as much as it used to b=
e!=0D
=0D
The screen is about the best I have seen on a laptop and I've seen a few!=
=0D
(previous contract was laptop evaluation for large blue-chip co)=0D
=0D
Its bright, crisp and of course.... HUGE :-) Perfect for massive=0D
spreadsheets, some image editing, making of videos, or just two word docs=
=0D
side by side - wicked for watching the odd DVD too!=0D
=0D
The weight of the laptop itself is actually not that bad.. I carry it with=
=0D
me every day to work and back and I don't notice that much difference=0D
between it and the ThinkPad it replaced, it's the expression on peoples=0D
faces when you "get it out" that does it for me... As if to say
"so thin,=
=0D
yet so powerful...... Wow"=0D
=0D
OS X is a dream to use, yes it does crash now and then (nowhere near as=0D
often as XP does on this dell I'm typing on now!) but its only the one app=
=0D
that crashes and you can easily continue working. You also have the beaut=
y=0D
that underneath it all is a strong BSD Unix, so if you want you can run al=
l=0D
your unix programs - I've had KDE and Evolution running on top of OS X=0D
without a problem. Of course.. If you just have to have Windows XP, then=
=0D
you can run it up in a Virtual PC session.=0D
=0D
One word of warning... The simple purchase of a mac doesn't stop there... =
I=0D
bought this laptop a good few months ago now... Since then a new iPod has=
=0D
appeared, then came the new wireless keyboard and mouse, and panther (OS X=
=0D
10.3) is preordered for delivery on the 24th - this should add a good deal=
=0D
of speed.=0D
=0D
Just noticed that as I have been typing this someone has mentioned theres=
=0D
one in the refurb store... I was going to mention this too. My PB17"
came=
=0D
>from
e=0D
laptop itself was released, it cost me =C2=A31950 including VAT, at a time=
when=0D
the laptop was going new for =C2=A32600. Add to that the fact that the la=
ptop I=0D
received was BRAND NEW (a cancelled order) then I was well chuffed at my=
=0D
saving (especially since I have claimed the VAT back too, as it was a=0D
company purchase!) As Apple say, most refurb stock is either brand new or=
=0D
has been returned within 7 days, comes with a clean bill of health and the=
=0D
remainder of its AppleCare warranty - which can be extended - there may=0D
however be cosmetic marks or scratches on the item... I was lucky :-)=0D
=0D
There.. I've rambled for a little too long... Any questions on any aspect =
I=0D
havent talked about (or ones that I have) then please feel free to ask!=0D
