Sometimes we see "laser/light beams" protecting valuable artwork

movies. Are these for real, or do they require a smoke machine to (a) make=

the beams visible (b) goggle to protect eye sight.

If they do exist, will they actually work? Break the beam, and an alarm=20
goes off.

Something like this would look pretty cool behind a window.
