Yes a Fujitsu - is that significant?  It holds a backup copy data, so it
isn't too important so long as the system continues to work - now if my
primary driver were to fail at the same time.....

Have you checked for spyware, use adaware to check for any junk esp if you
have installed anything like Kazaa.  How old is the disk? Is it Fujitsu?
I'd
get a backup of anything important just in case it is starting to gronk.

I have noticed an annoying noise coming from my HDD - Every 10 seconds
exactly it buzzes with an access for about 0.5 seconds.  Once noticed it is
like the chinese water torture.  I have tried stopping everything
non-essential and it still continues - It is unusually loud as well - I
can't usually hear disk accesses.

Has anyone got an idea of how I could detect the process responsible?

I must back it all up or there might be consequences!!!
