Thanks for the advice guys.

SWMBO had her eyes set on an HP Photosmart printer which churns out photo
size prints, then she wouldn't have to switch on the computer thingy :-)
I expect to use one of these would be even more expensive per print.

She is an angel though, there's a Dell sat nav jobbie sitting in the hall
waiting to be wrapped up, she wont let me play with it :-(

Any thoughts on the new Canon Ixus 400 camera, iv'e used the 3.2meg one and
found it to be very good.
