Simon,

Micro CHP is a reality. Both British Gas and Mircrogen will be moving to
full market next year, both are running real user trials at present. Micro
CHP's do cost money, estimated at around =A32,500, depended upon the grant
level that the government finally apply. Payback will be measure in years,
how ever 40 is pushing it. Even the PV industry quote payback in only 20
years, and that is expensive technology. Given the current history of
electrical supply in both the UK and worldwide (think USA East Coast and
Italy), the idea of your own little power station will be appealing to some
people. Whilst neither of the two products currently work off grid (ie with
a mains supply) so will not work in a power cut, they are both working on
the problem. All it needs is a small battery and inverter to power start up
the unit, the rest is already in-built. Once this is done, I really believe
they will have a good sized market.=20
