What about a normal Mobile Phone and Datacable?

I helped build a prototype system that used this for a SMS enabled auction
system, you sent a message to the mobile, a small java app connected to
the T300 using a serial cable and grabbed the message... some basic data
processing stuff happened (in the java program) and then the program sent
a SMS back confirming, or with an error code.

If you dont expect a massive demand, this could be a qimple solution, or
there are a plethora of companies who will sell you a box that does
something simular to the phone... or places that recieve and send the SMS
for you and you then have to interface with their system (normally over
the web) to get your messages...
