This exact thing happened to me on Monday night. The procedure I found is:

Boot using XP CD
At the first question press R to go to the "repair console"
In the repair console run the following:
fixmbr c:
fixboot c:
bootcfg /rebuild
exit

If your drive isn't goosed then this will fix it. Unfortunately for me
mine was cooked due to it running at around 82 degrees C since I bought it
(about 3 years ago). Did someone expect me to read the datasheet to find
out it couldn't handle more than 55 ? :(

Hope this helps
Pedro
