It's usually linked into the switch for the handbrake warning light - if
the
handbrake isn't on then the screen doesn't display anything distracting
(that's how my Alpine sat nav works - if the handbrake isn't on then you
can't get to the menus to set destinations but it will give you directions)
... of course if you "forget" to hook up the handbrake sense line
then...

DWDC carries up to 8 points as well as a possible hefty fine - I got my
arse
stopped by a traffpol some time ago when I used to use the laptop with
Autoroute for navigation and the only reason I didn't get done was that he
got an emercall while he was telling me how dangerous it was but before he
got to writing anything down.
