Thanks Guys.

Looked at the ASPI option suggested by Mark.

Win2K laptop already had the latest but AC doesnt work
WinXP didnt have it but still AC wont work after installing it

Looked at the "enable digital CD audio" option suggested by Pedro

Win2K was greyed out
WinXP was already enabled

Looked at CDEX as suggested by Calum

Win2K Laptop ripping a CD.
WinXP ripping another CD and encoding it quicker than my old Win98SE
machine
used to extract to WAV.
