Two will be available, both are mains gas powered (LPG will follow if

demand). The costs are likely to be around the =A32,500 (installed). Both

very similar specs, about 20Kw Heat and 1.5Kw electric. Other models will

launched later. Both are in field trials at present and looking to go to
market Q2 next year.

MicroGen is developed by British Gas and the other one (the name escapes at
present) will be marketed by PowerGen but is actually a New Zealand product
by WisperGen. The technology is both is very similar in that they use
sterling engines for power generation.=20

Basically when the unit is producing heat, it will generate electricity as
well. If this is more than is currently be used by the house it can be sold
back to the grid. At present they need a grid connect to work, so won't be
any help in power cuts, however off grid systems are being looked at as
well.
