Re: SatNav antenna

Paul,

http://www.navman-mobile.com/support.php?id=AA005213&faq=4
- but yours is not on the list.

I also find it very hit and miss on getting the first signal and it can
take quite a while. Sometimes a soft reset of the IPAQ does the trick but
difficult to do when driving along so I tend to sit in the car for a while
until it is up & running - very frustrating though. It seems to pick up
satelites quick enough but they only show as yellow on the GPS status
screen and take ages to go green.

I've also got some marine software - that can also take a long while to get
a fix.

Good luck

John

Thanks John.

My car is a Ford Mondeo 2.5 Ghia X (2004 model)

It seems to work OK if I hold it out the window for a minute for it to
get the initial lock. Once it's got that first lock, it seems to work
pretty much as normal, maintaining a signal through the windscreen...

It *sometimes* even manages to get that initial lock through the screen
as well, but this is a very hit & miss affair, and even when it does,
it
takes far, far longer than it should... (Like 20 minutes or more for
example).

There is a list somwhere (will see if I can find it) of vehicles that
suffer from the problem of signals not getting through windscreens. Did
not pay too much attention as mine wasn't on it - it may suggest a
solution though. Will have a dig around

Chaps,

Is there such a thing as a "re-radiating antenna" for an in-car
satnav??

Since I changed my car a couple of months ago, my Navman jacket is
hopeless at getting a satellite lock, and I think it is because I have
a
heated front windscreen, and the fine matrix of zigzag wires in the
glass must be scattering the signal.... (or something...)

So I'm hoping there is something that I can get that I can stick to
the
glass somewhere to pass a good signal through the windscreen....

Am I going to be in luck?

TIA

Paul G.
