You can download any irc client you want, but since you've never used
irc, I'll give some recommendations

On windows, try mirc (http://www.mirc.co.uk) it's esentially
free and
it's easy to use, you simply start it up, and are presented with a
dialogue asking which network you would like to connect to, on the right
hand side, hit the add button. In the description field of the popup,
type "nixhelp" (no quotes) in the irc server field, type
"irc.nixhelp.org" (again no quotes). You can leave the group
field
blank, and there is no password required to connect to nixhelp. Click
the add button on the right hand side of the box.

Fill in the details like the name and a nickname you want to use on irc,
then "connect to irc network" this will connect you to nixhelp
and a
channels box will popup, in the box next to the join button, type
"#ukha" (again, no quotes) and hit join, then you'll be there for
all to
see in the channel, on the right of the channel is the list of people in
it, and at the bottom where you type to send messages to the channel.

Sorry for the idiots guide, but better to be safe than sorry, this will
definatelly get you into irc ok :)

If your on linux, you can use xchat (http://www.xchat.org) and an
alternative for windows would be trillian (http://www.trillian.org) it's
a messaging client that allows you to use irc, msn messenger, aim, yahoo
and icq all in one client, handy if you do use a couple of other
services

Ken,
I never used IRC before.
What do I need on PC to use it, some software client I presume. Can I
use ICQ client?

Some of you asked about this over the weekend and I am led to believe
that some didn't even know it was there but there is a UKHA chat room on
Nixhelp which is pretty "lively".

Fair warning, it gets busy and it is a bit of a laugh, but if you need
instant answers you can get them most of the time in the channel, as
well as a good slagging and a good laugh.
