RE: Tivo Streaming

Interesting!

Mark McC and myself have been looking for a way to manually start/stop
recording on a 'no subscription hacked' tivo - still can't find a way :-(

When you stream off of the tivo - what details do you have to specify? i.e.
do you need to give the PC app a file name or can you somehow ask for a
block of time recorded at a certain time (if that makes sense?)

Just in case you didn't know (as some people at UKHA2003 didn't) it is
now possible to stream tivo recordings directly off a Tivo straight to a
PC and play on the PC. No re-encoding or extraction is required.

It is also possible to play .ty files previously extracted locally on a
PC without any re-encoding at all. Just fire up the player and play your
ty files.

I've tried the second option and provided you've got a decent PC spec,
it works a treat! Not tried the 1st option but people appear to have had
success, I think one guy got 2 or 3 concurrent streams going!

The thread for this (and associated files) is:

Another useful utility is now able to extract and replace .ty files from
a Tivo using a standard ftp client!

Not tried this myself.

Enjoy
